White Lies - Ellie Holmes

After reading The Flower Seller by Ellie Holmes last year (you can read my review here) I was delighted to be asked to read her next book White Lies.

Following a night out Sam and her husband Neil are on their way home when the couple knock David off his motorbike. When Neil then convinces his wife to lie to the police neither of them could have imagined its ensuing consequences.

Their marriage is already on shaky ground, following an admission by Neil, so when Sam can't handle her guilty feelings anymore she decides to go behind her husband's back and visit David in the hospital to confess all. When she arrives at the hospital David has a visitor so once again Sam finds herself telling another lie about why she's there.

The deceptions and lies come thick and fast and although the characters aren't particularly easy to like (with the exception of the adorable widow Daphne), it's compelling to read as you know that the proverbial is going to hit the fan but you don't know when or how.

White Lies is an intriguing story, written with great insight into how and why people feel the need to deceive others, whether it's to protect themselves or to spare the feelings of others close to them and clearly showing how seemingly harmless lies can soon spiral out of control, impacting everyone involved.

This is a book that will have you questioning what you would do in the same circumstances and certainly proves to me that honesty is usually the best policy!

Ellie's talent for writing shines through in this book and she's fast becoming one of my favourite authors. I would highly recommend that you check them out, I know you won't be disappointed.

With kind thanks to author Ellie Holmes for the review copy.
