  2. Wow just one book!! I'm not sure I could pick just one I've read nearly 30 books already this year and my top 3 would have to be The Girl You Lost by Kathryn Croft a fast paced twist filled thriller I just couldn't put down. Helen Durrant for great police series books I've read all six of her books this year my favourite Bayliss and Calladine book was Dead List and my favourite Greco book was Dark Houses, however after so much crime and thriller a girl has to have some mushy comfort so my favourite chick lit book would have to be Snowflakes on Silver Cove by Holly Martin which had my laughing from page 1 in it funny yet endearing story. It's been a fantastic year already for new books and newly discovered authors can't wait to see what the second half of the year brings.

  3. Happy Blogiversary Neats! My favourite book so far this year is How to be Brave by Louise Beech. I loved the uniqueness of it and flow of the story. The two storylines were both so intriguing. Beautifully written and a story I still think about most days. Thanks, Laurie Ellingham xx

  4. Happy blogoversary. One of the best books I read this year is This Must Be the Place by Maggie O'Farrell. It was a really good story about relationships and the damage that we do to other people.

  6. By far, the best book I've read this year was Room. It was haunting, and I remember reading it on a train into London and feeling so vulnerable as I got off cos I didn't know who could have been around me.

  10. Happy blogiversary, Neats! I'd nominate SATURN RUN by John Sandford. My favourite crime writer collaborated with a science expert to produce a huge exciting thriller about American and Chinese astronauts who compete to reach a mysterious alien object spotted close to Saturn.

    4. Happy Blogiversary! Well done to you on your success, here's to many more years.
I recently finished 'My Husband's Wives' by Faith Hogan and completely fell in love with it. Lots of layered and interwoven stories, exactly my kind of read.

  14. "The Kind Worth Killing" by Peter Swanson because it was gripping, a proper old-school thriller that contained several twists I never saw coming! :)

  16. Happy Blogiversary Neats (eek that must mean mine is 12 months old as well!).

  17. Happy blogiversary!
This is such a tough one to call, but I'm going to go with The Birdwatcher, by William Shaw. It's a slow-burning, atmospheric novel, that really brings the marshes of Kent to life and makes them part of the sinister backdrop to this great crime tale.

  18. Happy Blogiversary x
Gosh, its difficult to decide which is the best book I've read so far this year. I adored The Ballroom by Anna Hope x

  19. I've read so many great books this year- but my favourite so far is the latest one Play Dead by Angela Marsons. I love her flawed lead detective who has a heart of gold despite herself and the storylines are always both gripping and chilling.

  20. Happy Blogiversary! Tough question, but think my favourite was The Little French Guesthouse by Helen Pollard - a lovely feel-good read with heart about friendship (although there was romance too)

  23. Just one book? Ermmmmmmm...... I think I will have to say The Second Chance Shoe Shop by Marcie Steele/Mel Sherratt because it was fab!

  24. WOW the last 12months have gone quick, doesn't seem that long since you set up The Haphazardous Hippo! My favourite book so far this year is: While My Eyes Were Closed. Linda Green. When you have small children you know that in the blink of an eye they can just disappear. Every parents worst nightmare is their child going missing and this book really drew me in. I was hooked from the first page. The book contained everything I look for in a good thriller and was totally gripping.

  25. The girl in the red coat by Kate Hamer, kept me guessing throughout. Lovely ending.

  26. Happy blogiversary! Am I the only one who had to refer to my books on Goodreads to check what I have read this year? I think The Finding of Martha Lost by Caroline Wallace is the one I enjoyed most of all but there have been some real corkers so far - long may it continue

  27. Congratulations Neats! That is SUCH a difficult question, like choosing a favourite child. Avoiding the obvious big hitters, I'll say Invisible by Barbara Copperthwaite...something really different in the way it looks at victims, and a quite mesmerising read...

  28. Happy Blogiversary!
I've read some crackers this year but I think my favourite so far is Lisa Hall's Between You and Me. Such a fabulous twist and I was so absorbed in the story at the time that I had to flick back a few pages to make sure my eyes weren't deceiving me.
